I had the opportunity to travel to Austin for a few days with a good friend of mine. We were there for a short time but it was a nice little getaway for us, after having a cold, long winter in Minnesota. While visiting we learned what we liked and didn’t like about Austin. Therefore, I came up with a list of Do’s and Don’ts for visiting Austin that I hope you will appreciate. I’m hopeful that it will give you some direction as to where you want to spend your time.
Do Visit The Zilker Botanical Garden In Austin
The Zilker Botanical Garden is such a great place to visit. We went on a beautiful, sunny day. I’d suggest going on a weekday, if you can. Parking is ok but not the greatest. The turn to go into the botanical garden is very busy so crossing it can be difficult. There is a lot to see at this botanical garden. Beautiful waterfall, butterfly garden, Japanese architecture.
Don’t Drive All Over Downtown Austin
The parking is limited in downtown and (I’m sorry if your from Austin) but the driving is stressful. There are too many cars and too many people that don’t follow driving rules. If you’re from out of state, you’ll see what I mean. I would have much rather gotten an uber or avoided downtown entirely. Most things in downtown were very overpriced and crowded. Also you almost always have to pay to park and sometimes the prices are very high for a short amount of time.
Do Try Out Coffee Shops
This was my favorite way to start our mornings. One of my favorite coffee shops is Revival Coffee. It’s so cute and pink. Very fun for a girls trip. They even have an adorable little patio to sit outside and enjoy your coffee in the sun. The owner is sweet and makes good suggestions.
Don’t Forget To Budget For Tolls
I didn’t realize that this was a thing until I got back to Minnesota and saw a bill for tolls. Luckily it really wasn’t a lot of money. But still, who wants to pay for tolls? Our State doesn’t have these (that I know of) so I was little bit surprised when I seen a bill in the mail.
Do Spend A Day Or Two In Fredricksburg, Texas
It’s such a wonderful place to visit. There are so many Wineries around Fredricksburg. The Hill Country is incredibly beautiful and unique. It feels like your in Europe almost. It has such a vintage feel to it. Every wine that I tried at Augusta Vin was delicious. The only thing I was disappointed in, is in order to go on the balcony you have to be a wine club member. To me that’s a little silly. Why can’t people just take a quick peek of the view?
Do Eat Some Mexican Food (if your stomach is able to)
We went to some pretty great places for Mexican Food. My stomach is a little bit weak so I have to be a little careful. We ate at Gabriela’s and it was pretty delicious. We didn’t have the greatest waiting experience. We were left for a good half hour to 45 minutes at least before the guy came to ask us if we want anything to drink. By that time we were starving. There are 2 locations. I suggest not going to the downtown one for the busyness factor and the parking is terrible. You also have to pay to park.
Don’t Forget To Book Airbnb or Hotel With An Outdoor Pool
One reason we decided on going to Texas was for the warmth factor. Having a outdoor pool was so nice and relaxing. We didn’t have to worry about driving anywhere and we got to experience so many beautiful sunsets out by the pool.
