Think back to a time when you supported a great cause. What was your role? What did you contribute and why? I believe there is a part that drives us to want to make a difference. At least for many of us, that’s a true statement. Deep down, we want to go beyond intentions into actionable steps.
Fight For What’s Right
This past January I had an opportunity to partner with Venture to fight against human trafficking. For the month of January, they had a challenge going. They would give $1 per mile of what you run, to help rescue and house trafficking victims. You simply just had to commit to a certain amount of miles for January.
For me this was a tough thing to do. I hate running! But the mission was something close to my heart for various reasons. So you guys, I did it. I got myself to the gym every day after work. No excuses because lives depended on it. The result? I ended up running 87 miles in January. Not only did my body get healthier but I helped to rescue lives with this challenge.
What this did was remind me of what matters. Fighting for what’s right! This mission to me was a no brainer. For those of you moral people, I’m sure you get it. Some things in this world can be a little bit harder to see then this challenge. They can be a little tricky to figure out and navigate.
In a world full of ideas of what is right and true, people can have a lot of opinions. What we think is right, can be personal. But can we all agree that we were made to love? We were made to have compassion for people and to help care for the needs of others. So if we let this God given love lead us, how could we change the world for the better?
Where Do We Start?
As I’m typing my heart is hoping and praying for people to go beyond themselves to see the needs and hearts of neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family that are around them. All you have to do is simply go on social media and see where the problems are.

You guys why is this even happening? It’s disgusting. Instead of selling it, go give it to someone in need. Drop it off on the doorstep to someone that actually is sick and being quarantined for some time.
I don’t get the greediness of our world. We live in fear, instead of faith and love. This isn’t our nature. It’s not who God created us to be. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us “God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and of a sound mind.”
How CAN we help?
This is the perfect time to start loving people. I bet that you can think of at least one person you know who needs love and help in some way. So ask yourself, in what way CAN I help? Sometimes we don’t always know the answer. This is when we turn to God. Prayer shifts things. It has real power. I’ve seen it. If you aren’t a believer, that is fine. But just know you’re missing out.
I’ve been able to minster to people in all sorts of ways because of listening to God’s voice. I’ve been able to buy groceries for strangers. One of whom later on became a friend. I have gotten the opportunity to pray prayers of healing over people and see miracles happen.
I’m not perfect though. Sometimes I miss Gods nudges. Other times I assume my help isn’t wanted or needed. Sometimes we miss it and sometimes we get it right. And with God on our side we can go beyond what we think is possible.
